Smoky Mountain CrossFit will be hosting a special Olympic Weightlifting Seminar Saturday, November 23, 2012 at 9am. Our instructor will be CrossFit Games Reginals competitor Amanda Spannbauer.
Here is a little bit about Amanda and her background. She was raised in Maryville, TN and moved to Chattanooga during the summer of 2012 to attend the Graduate Athletic Training Program at UTC. She is getting married July 2013 and hoping to find an athletic training job in the Chattanooga area upon graduation in 2014.
Amanda was a competitive gymnast from elementary school through middle school. She also played soccer on a club team and placed second in state before trying her hand at shot put, discus, and javelin in high school and club track. She went to the regional competition her Junior and Senior years in high school and qualified for the state competition during her senior year. She tried her hand at cheerleading during undergraduate school at Maryville College.
During high school, Amanda was introduced to CrossFit and felt like she was at home again in the gym. She found an extreme love for lifting and getting pushed to her limits in the Met Cons. CrossFit sparked an itch to compete again and she went to regionals with her former box in Maryville. She is currently a trainer at CrossFit Brigade in Chattanooga.
She specializes in the olympic lifts and says that the snatch is her favorite lift. She will be teaching us the fundamentals of the snatch and the clean and jerk, as well as offering guidance to experienced lifters.
